Divemaster

What Is It?

This course is the first step into the PADI professional diver training system, and is designed to turn qualified divers into supervisory personnel. This is achieved by focusing not only on personal watermanship and knowledge but also by acting as a certified assistant during all levels of diver training. The course is divided into a number of areas that test your own diving skills and expand your knowledge whilst also giving hands on experience. You will be assisting an instructor in all aspects of diver training from dive planning and equipment preparation to assessing student performance and ensuring safety.

Who Can Do It

To qualify for PADI Divemaster training, you must be at least 18 years of age and a certified Rescue diver with a minimum of 20 logged dives. You must also have a valid First Aid and CPR certificate such as the PADI Emergency First Response. Before certification you must have a minimum of 60 logged dives.

How Long Will It Take?

Academics and water-work are usually held on evenings and weekends over a total of between 3-4 weeks. Additional assists can be conducted at any time to suit the schedule of the candidate. The entire course has ongoing assessment so may take longer to become both confident and competent enough to be awarded the Divemaster rating.

What does the course involve?

The Divemaster course is divided into three areas:

Watermanship and skill assessment
This is designed to test critical areas of diving such as rescue and skills demonstrations to ensure that these essential skills reach a minimum standard.

This includes :

Watermanship and stamina
General diving skills
Problem solving
Diver rescue skills
Knowledge of theory and diving principles

This series of lectures and exams covers areas specific to the Divemasters role as well as areas of general diving knowledge. This includes :

The role & characteristics of a Divemaster
Supervising general diving activities for certified divers
Assisting with student divers in training
Dive theory introduction
Physics, Physiology & Equipment
Decompression theory & dive tables
Divemaster conducted programmes
Risk management
Business of diving
Furthering your dive career
Practical training exercises

This portion of the course involves role playing exercises and assisting with courses during which the candidate will become an acting Divemaster for confined water, open water, and non training activities. In addition candidates are to prepare an emergency assistance plan and a map of the shoreline and underwater terrain of a local dive site and this is done in your own time.

What Equiupment And Materials Will I Need?

As a professional level of course the candidate will be expected to own their own dive equipment. Exceptions can be made for tanks and weights.. The candidate will also REQUIRE: a dive wheel, diving knowledge workbook and an encyclopaedia.

Course Fees

Divemaster course - £299.00 excl. materials

This includes: manual, air fills, pool fees, and all tuition.

This does not include: equipment hire, transport, PADI fees or site entry fees.

All candidates will also require:

PADI encyclopaedia of recreational diving, PADI diving knowledge workbook and PADI wheel.
