Advanced open water - Adventure diver

What Is It?

The Advanced Open Water programmes are the ideal way for qualified divers to either gain more experience or as a way to gain further insight and skills into a number of new and challenging areas of diving. If you are a newly qualified diver then this option allows you to gain experience and knowledge under the supervision of an instructor and will increase your confidence and skills. You can also credit each of the dives you do on this course towards a relevant Speciality course. The first dive for most Specialities is the same as the Advanced dive so when you come to do the speciality there is one less dive.

Who Can Do It?

Anyone who has an entry level qualification in diving with a minimum of four open water dives can start the course. Those who are between the age of twelve and fifteen will be awarded the JUNIOR ADVANCED OPEN WATER certification and must therefore be buddied by an adult until they are sixteen.

What Does The Course Involve?

Academic Session

Videos, lectures and study of the knowledge reviews from the manual. The sessions are held in our comfortable classroom and last around 2 hours.

Core Dives

Deep Dive This introduces you to safe deep diver practices. You will learn how colours and objects are affected by depth and also how nitrogen narcosis affects you using timed tasks.

Navigation Dive In this dive you will learn to navigate to and from a starting point using your compass and natural references as well as navigating square patterns and estimating distances using timed swims and kick cycles.

Elective Dives

These are chosen from the following list but availability may depend on factors such as weather, tides and boat availability.

Boat Diver You will be shown techniques and protocols for boat diving whilst enjoying a dive from one of the many charter vessels that we have access to.

DPV This gives you an opportunity to use an underwater seascooter to get to and from dive sites without expending too much energy allowing you to enjoy the dive more and use less air.

DRYSUIT DIVER

Dry Suit Diver This gives you the chance to try a dry suit out or practice skills if you already use a dry suit. A confined water session is required before this dive. Multilevel Dive Allows you to increase your dive time and plan dives using the wheel. This is perfect for wall dives.

Multilevel Diver  This dive is ideal if you do not yet have a dive computer and want to have a lot more flexibility in planning your dives and do not want to be restricted by the RDP tables.  The Multilevel dive shows you how to plan your dive into as many levels as you require to get the most time out of your days diving and also still keep track of your nitrogen loading on each section of the dive.

Nitrox This course is designed to allow you as the diver, more time underwater compared to diving on air with the use of more oxygen content in your cylinder and reducing the amount of nitrogen to be absorbed during your dive.

NIGHTDIVER  Do you ever find that there is not enough time in the day to get a dive in? or that the same sites are becoming stale diving them during the day? well why not try the nightdiver option which will give an introduction on safe practises for nightdiving, torch signals and also see a lot of species of marine life that come out at night.

Peak Performance Buoyancy The purpose of this dive is to polish a divers buoyancy control beyond the Open Water level through knowledge development and practice.

Search and Recovery Concentrating on locating objects using a variety of techniques for objects of different sizes and in different conditions.

Underwater Naturalist This dive concentrates on the aquatic ecosystem. It will help you recognise and understand many of the plants and animals that you see when your diving.

Underwater Photography/Digital Underwater Photography If there is something worth diving on then it is probably worth photographing. Not only will you learn a number of photography techniques but you will be left with a lasting record of your dive. Wreck Diving Probably the most popular choice, this dive allows you to visit a piece of history that very few have seen. You will learn about safety and navigation around wrecks as well as laws governing wrecks.

Wreck Diver Due to the amount of shipping in this area there are lots of wrecks to be seen off our coastline at depths to suit all divers. Some of these have sank due to weather conditions and some during the war.  This option will show you how to dive safely on a wreck, how to navigate on a wreck site and also a bit of history about the wreck itself.

DPV This gives you an opportunity to use an underwater seascooter to get to and from dive sites without expending too much energy allowing you to enjoy the dive more and use less air.

Advanced or Adventure Diver?

The Advanced course consists of the two core dives and three dives from the list of electives. The adventure diver consists of completing just three of the elective dives.

How Long Will It Take?

The academics are usually held on a weekday evening prior to the dives themselves. The dives are then scheduled to suit the weather, availability of sites and equipment and needs of the students. The advanced course can take as little as two days to complete and can also be combined with any of our weekend diving breaks to many different dive sites around Britain.

The adventure diver can be completed in just one day!

How Do I Book A Course?

To book your place on the next course could not be easier. All we need is course payment to confirm your place and provide you with all the materials you will need. This can be done by either calling in or simply ringing up and quoting your credit card number (we can then post your materials to you). You will need to have read the relevant modules in your manual before you start the course and filled in the knowledge review for those modules.
